Established
in 1968, the Society of Canadian Cine Amateurs (SCCA) is a non-profit
charitable
organization of amateur and professional video and film makers and
amateur
video and film clubs, whose object is to promote the arts and sciences
of amateur movie production, to represent, to assist, and to
co-ordinate
the interests and activities of individual video and film makers and
production
groups in Canada.
Among its activities the Society circulates videos and films, and organizes Public Screenings, Seminars, and an Annual Convention or Regional Meetings open to all. The SCCA also grants Honours to those who have made an outstanding contribution to Amateur Movie Making and publishes PANORAMA, a regular video/film making newsletter for its members. In addition the Society holds an Annual Film & Video Competition open to all Canadians and to all members of the Society wherever they may live, and the prestigious Canadian International Annual Film Festival (CIAFF) with sections for Amateurs, Students, Film Students, and Independent Professionals. Over the years this competition has attracted entries from more than forty nations. In 1997 alone there were 244 entries, and 265 in 1998, from fourteen countries.
